 About Us

Bright Ideas Childcare and Preschool, Inc. was ‘born’ on January 1, 2014 when Patricia Smith (Miss Patti), and her husband Christian, finalized their purchase of Walgrove’s Daycare-Preschool, Inc. Walgrove’s was a fixture in the Greenwood area since 1986, starting out as a small family daycare and growing into a multiple-site corporation with a strong reputation of quality childcare. Miss Patti, and the staff of Bright Ideas, will strive to continue and strengthen that reputation.

The staff of Bright Ideas are all experienced, trained caregivers who love and care for each and every child as if they were their own. They complete mandatory training in several topic areas annually, they are all certified in Pediatric CPR and First Aid, and they have all received their required criminal clearances. Our staff work diligently to ensure that each child's time at our center is both enjoyable and an invaluable learning experience.

Our center's slogan is "Striving for Excellence in Childcare!" , and we whole-heartedly practice this every day.

Miss Patti's Bio:

Patricia earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from Mount Aloysius College and her Director's Credential from the PA Office of Child Development. She has worked in the childcare field for 19 years, starting her career as a collegiate work study assistant at Mount Aloysius's on-site daycare. She completed her student teaching at the Curtin Preschool in Altoona, was a substitute teacher for Appalachia IU8, an Assistant Group Supervisor for the Cambria County Child Development Corporation, and prior to her purchasing Walgrove's Daycare-Preschool, she was one of their Center Director's and Preschool Teacher since 1998. She not only has dedicated her professional life to serving the needs of children, but her personal life as well. Miss Patti has been a volunteer religious education instructor and a volunteer/chaperone for the Girl Scouts of America; she is a member of the Portage Area Marching Band Boosters and Girls Basketball Boosters; and she is a volunteer for the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Being employed by Walgrove's since 1998 has given her the opportunity to form some great relationships with parents and children throughout the Greenwood and Altoona areas. She hopes to continue forming these relationships for years to come!
